We’ve got a play on tonight’s FCS game between Missouri State and Eastern Kentucky, and as of 6:52 PM Pacific it is still under delay due to severe thunderstorms in the area:
Lightning in the area has forced the Missouri State football team into a weather delay before its season opener against Eastern Kentucky.
The MSU staff just announced a 30-minute lightning delay at Plaster Field. It wasn’t raining for the first five minutes, but the rain just started coming down, and they have asked the fans to clear the stands.
Update: The 30-minute lightning delay clock restarted at 6:25 p.m. after another nearby strike. The rain was coming down considerably less hard at the time, but NCAA rules state 30 minutes must pass after the most recent nearby strike.
Update: An hour after the game was scheduled to start, we’re still under a weather delay out here at Hammons Field with another line of strong storms looming to the west.
The band has gone home for the night, but there are still a handful of people hanging around in the stands. It’s not raining right now, but there is a lot of lightning in the area.
Update: They’ve cleared the stands again at Plaster as a pair of nasty-looking cells are about to move into the area. The teams almost took the fields for a pre-game warm up before a few large lightning strikes reset the delay clock.
There are rumors that Eastern Kentucky is willing to stay overnight and play the game tomorrow, but nothing has been confirmed about that yet. We’re still technically waiting to try and play this game tonight.
The latest news is that Missouri State officials are going to make a decision on the game at 9 PM Central Time (7:00 PM Pacific) so we should know within the next few minutes if the game will go tonight. The info below is from a running blog updating the weather conditions:
